NOTE: The Import dialog is slightly changed from the pre-2.1 version. However, most of the controls have the same meaning as before. Some of the following material is also described in the User's Manual.

◊ 1. In the Setup dialog when either creating a new table or for an existing table, click Import. Or click More Import Controls in the Data Preview window. This brings up the Import dialog.
2. In the dialog, choose the source of the text (text box or file), and other settings as described below. Previewed Text File will be the default source if the Data Preview window is currently showing — this means the data currently showing in the preview window will be imported.
3. Click Import to import the data, or Save Settings to save the current dialog settings (for the active table) without importing.
◊ In the Import dialog, you can check Auto grow to have row/column counts calculated automatically. Tableworks will examine the text before importing it, and reset the table row/column counts to the numbers required depending on the delimiters in the text. If the Source is set to "Previewed Text File", the new row/column counts will be set to the numbers shown in the Data Preview window, for "Columns to use" and "Rows to use". The actual table extents will be adjusted accordingly (i.e., rows and columns will be added or deleted as necessary).
◊ Click Save Settings after changing any of the dialog settings, if you don't want to actually import the text right away. The new settings will be used the next time text is imported. If you brought up the Import dialog from the Data Preview window, and you change the delimiter characters in the Import dialog, then clicking Save Settings will cause the data to be re-displayed using the new delimiters in the Data Preview window.
◊ The new Import Ordering popup menu lets you select whether data will be imported according to cell numbering (choose By Cell Number), or ignoring cell numbering (choose Across, Then Down). Cell numbering can be set to import in any order, as described in the section on Cell Import Ordering. The across-then-down ordering ignores cell numbers, and always imports by going across the columns of each row and then down to the next row.
